Free Websites Are Not "Really" Free! By Theodora Dimou - owner/operator Dora's Web World By Theodora Dimou at 2012-02-14 00:31:50

I was talking to a friend the other day and discussing "free" websites. In conversation with her it finally came out ......what I really think - "free websites" are not for businesses! " Free websites" I think are appropriate for family websites - friend websites and websites like that but not for business - when was the last time you saw a "this is a free website from ___" message on a business website and felt that the website you were visiting was good for the organization.
It's also misleading I think when it says "free website" - its actually "no cash fee" web hosting in some situations where they put ads on your web pages to help pay for the service - and then you have to take an available website template and "make" a website - so ...last time you went to work - did it cost you? ....basically did you get paid? Is 50 hours of your time to make a "free" website worth it? How long do you think it will take you to make a "free" website?
As an SEO expert, who does website management, website design and internet marketing as well as consulting and training, discussing why my "$475" website is not expensive with all the "free website" messages out there can be difficult especially when you are service oriented like me ....truth is, I would work for free if I could afford it :) I love what I do so much - however with my credit cards full with expressions of care and devotion ....well it's time to try and educate people better it seems.
Please think about it before getting a free website - does saving...let's say (although could be much cheaper) $50 dollars a month .....make the distracting ads on your website which may actually get visitors to steer off of your website quick while they visit another website - make a "free website worth it" ......
I know the economy is difficult now and that $50 dollars could buy a lot of juice and milk ....so let's say ....$25.00 per month ....does that make it ok?
If you took 30 or 40 hours of your time (or 50 ) to work on your own website and then had a bunch of distracting ads on it ....do you think the website you made would work as well as the one I made for you? Or even as good as many professional affordable website designers you can find online?
Free websites are not "really" free!
